When online learning company Thought Industries was looking to expand internationally, agility was key – and Regus was the answer

For online-learning Service-as-a-Software (SaaS) company Thought Industries, which has recently opened its second office, agility is key. Launched in 2014 in Boston, USA, a growing customer base meant it needed a European HQ too, and it chose the area around Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green for two reasons: (1) its reputation as a lively tech hub was a natural fit for a fast-moving company that needed to hit the ground running; and (2) the flexible office space-provider Regus was able to offer premises to match an accelerated timescale, because it typically allows a tenant to move in almost as soon as they’ve signed the contract.

A cloud-based platform that provides “online learning experiences” to for-profit training companies as well as educational tools for software companies, business growth has been exponential for Thought Industries – and team expansion has been top of the agenda to satisfy demand: it has doubled its workforce since 2017. According to Therese Kelleher, Vice President of Operations, Dublin was the natural choice: “The capital of Ireland has always fostered a strong entrepreneurial spirit, so it makes sense for our expansion plans to start there,” she told Cision. “This major investment in Europe will bring Thought Industries’ innovative technology closer to an expanding international list of software companies.”

Partnering with Regus has allowed the company to scale up business with minimal fuss. To start with, a staff of seven will occupy part of Regus House in Harcourt Centre – with the option for further hires as the business grows. There’s also coworking space for communal activities and a business lounge for more formal get-togethers. As an international business that needs to be able to move quickly, there’s no time for Thought Industries to spend months on the ground, scouting out appropriate neighbourhoods in a new territory, negotiating contracts and brokerage fees in an unknown environment, and wondering whether they’ve made the right decision – especially when there are clients to serve.

Choosing an office-space provider like Regus means all of this has already been done – leaving a business like Thought Industries with the more important (and more enjoyable) aspects of expansion. The flexible nature of the Regus model means everything – from the number of desks required to the number of months they’re required for – can be tailored to suit. And a large provider with international scale and scope removes any of the barriers to entry that might have been faced by a startup or young company looking to expand at scale – for example, by absorbing some of the costs for a premium city-centre location. When business calls for an agile solution, flexspace is ideally placed to get things up and running.
